We claim that self-study in the evening in college is NOT necessary by the reasons below:
First of all, self-study in the evening is not, and has never been compulsary in almost all colleges. So far as we know, as well as those who hold the opposite opinion I believe, many of our classmates or friends haven't spent lots of time on their self-study in evening, but they still have passed all of their examinations and even are well qualified. They may have spent their hard evening time on part-time job or take care of their family, they may have spent their romantic evening time with sweet heart, or they may have spent their beautiful evening time in pubs or on computer games, .... Anyway, whatever they have done, our point is that they still have been excellent qualified by gained enough knowledge and information, although they haven't done anything about self-study in evening. If we can negative their true exist, how can we just suppose the necessarity of self-study in evening only by our random thinking?
Secondly, we would like to ask why evening? Actually, we have plently of time during the day time. We don't know how much time everybody has spent on their study here, but we DO know that we are going to have 12 hours everyday if we wake up at 7:00 am and finish at 7:00 pm. Even if all of the time spent on meals and breaks is excluded, we still have at least 8 hours left, or maybe even 10. That means 40 hours per week and 800 hours for each semester. In that case, do you still suppose that 800 hours are not enough?
Actually, we understand the importance of self-study to college students, but we can never subjectively suppose its necessarity only by its importance, since we know there are millions of important things which are unnecessary, such as buying an apartment. Furthermore, we believe, as well as those who hold the opposite opinion to use will do, that study is not the only one thing for college students to do. They also need to learn how to make friends, how to join into social societies, and even how to love each other. In that case, don't you think that it is a waste of time to push all college students to do self-study only by claiming that it is nessary?
And, besides that, to deal with the study issue what you are worry about, we think the college students should be encouraged to use their day time more efficiently, and we believe their studies won't be disturbed by not do self-study in the evening if they can use their day time tightly.
In conclusion, there is not any evidence to prove that the study will be damaged by not doing self-study in evening, and there are much more things for them to do other than self-study. Therefore, we couldn't see any necessarity of self-study in evening for college studdents, if they can use their day time as efficiently as they should do.
