English lesson 7

A person from China sent me an email. But there are some mistakes. I believe you can learn from his mistakes too.

__________________________________________________________________

This is his email :

这是他的电子邮件:

Thanks very much. Will you write to me in English?
Yes, I ever told you that I'm a chemistry teacher.
Perhaps my writing is not too polite to envey my respection. Do not mind, please. If you have time to cerect them. I will very happy. (whether i can say, ‘It's my honor.’)

__________________________________________________________________

There are six parts which have some mistakes .

1) Thanks very much.
2) I ever told you that I'm a chemistry teacher.
3) I will very happy.
4) Perhaps my writing is not too polite to envey my respection.
5) Do not mind, please.

1) For the first sentence ‘Thanks very much.’. It should be ‘Thank you very much.’ / ‘Thanks.’ or ‘Thanks a lot.’

1) 第一个句子 ‘Thanks very much.’. 应该写成 ‘Thank you very much.’ / ‘Thanks.’ 或者 ‘Thanks a lot.’

2) For the sentence ‘I ever told you I am a teacher.’ , although people can understand what you mean, we should try not to use the chinese word (曾经〕in this way.

2) 这个句子 ‘I ever told you I am a teacher.’

We should say,

(1) 'Did I ever tell you that I am a chemistry teacher?"
(2) "I told you that . . ."

3) For the sentence ‘I will very happy.’, you have to put the word "be". The correct sentence is ‘I will be very happy.’ The word ‘be’ belongs to ‘is, are, am, was, were, ...’ When u can’t put the words ‘is , are , am ,,...’, you can replace them with ‘be’.

3) 这个句子‘I will very happy.’, 你应该说 "be"这个字. 正确的句子是 ‘I will be very happy.’  ‘be’ 这个字属于 ‘is, are, am, was, were, ...’ 在一些句子,当你不能放 ‘is , are , am ,,...’, 你可以用 ‘be’代替.

Take for example, we say, ‘This girl is naughty.’ We say, ‘Don’t be naughty.’ We can’t say, ‘Don’t am/is/are naughty.’ So we use the word ‘be’ to replace ‘am/is/are’ So we would say, ‘Don’t be naughty.’

, ‘This girl is naughty.’我们说, ‘Don’t be naughty.’ 我们不能说, ‘Don’t am/is/are naughty.’所以我们用‘be’来代替‘am/is/are’.所以我们说 ‘Don’t be naughty.’

We say, ‘You are happy.’ But we can’t say, ‘Don’t are happy.’ So we use the word ‘be’ again. We would say, ‘Don’t be happy.’

我们说
, ‘You are happy.’ 我们说,‘Don’t be happy.’

We can’t say, ‘I will am/is/are happy.’ So we use the word ‘be’. We say, ‘I will be happy.’

, ‘I will am/is/are happy.’ 我们说, ‘I will be happy.’

4) For the sentence ‘Perhaps my writing is not too polite to envey my respection.’,

‘Perhaps my writing is not too polite to envey my respection.’,

Maybe you can say,

‘Perhaps my writing is not good enough to convey how much I respect you.’
‘Perhaps my writing is not good enough to convey my gratefulness.’
‘Perhaps my writing is not so polite. This is because I am not so good at English.’

You can put what you want to say in two or three sentences.

White people like to say a thing in two or three sentences, and put it in simple sentence.

Don’t put all the things you want to say in one sentence. The sentence will be complicated and hard to understand.

5) For the sentence ‘Do not mind, please.’, it is grammatically correct. But it is wrong if you say that when you make a mistake. When you make a mistake, you should say, ‘I am sorry.’ It sounds funny if you make a mistake and you ask people not to take it to heart.

You only can ask people ‘Don’t take it to heart.’ when you console someone.

When you do the wrong thing, you say, ‘I am so sorry. I don’t mean it. Please forgive me.’

这个句子‘Do not mind, please.’,文法上没有错误.

你只说‘Don’t take it to heart.’"别放在心上"当你安慰别人.

当你做错某件事,你说
‘I am so sorry. I don’t mean it. Please forgive me.’"我很抱歉.我不是故意的.请原谅我."

In another email, he also made some mistakes.

The sentence ‘Would you tell me what's your job?’ has some mistake. It has double questions. You should say,

‘Would you tell me what's your job?’

‘Would you tell me what your job is?’
‘What is your job?’

Same thing, you can't say, ‘Can you please tell me where are you from?’ because there are two questions in the sentence. You should say,

‘Can you please tell me where are you from?’

‘Can you please tell me where you are from?’
‘Where are you from?’
