楼主说得对,从法律和道德的两个层来说。
In terms of law, it is the main consideration in the sentences that how much the suspect has hurt the victim or the society. In both continental and common law systems, the hurts to the victim(s) can be considered as being waived down when the victim(s) is/are willing to give her/his/their forgiveness. Thus, as the hurts is waived down, it is reasonable to make the sentence to be mitigated.
In terms of morality, it should be encouraged that the suspect can try their efforts to somehow remedy the crime. And, usually, one of the best way to gain some forgiveness from the victim(s) is do something to remedy the crime. |
