培训专家 从第七届比赛开始,辩论赛采用了国际通行的议会制辩论形式。虽然过去两年我们在正式比赛的前一天都进行培训,但由于时间仓促,培训内容单薄,选手也没有足够的时间进行消化吸收和模拟训练。因此,我们于2004年11月17日至22日期间邀请美国的“国际辩论教育协会”(International Debating Education Association)主席和新加坡的“新加坡大学辩论协会”(Singapore Association for Inter-varcity Debating)主席率领有关专家在北京举办“第九届外研社杯全国英语辩论赛赛前培训及热身赛”。 进行此次培训的专家有:Mr Loke Wing Fatt Mr Loke is the founding President of the Society for Associated Inter-Tertiary Debaters (SAID from Singapore. He holds a Master-of-Education degree (Educational Leadership and Management) from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Australia (2004), a Specialist Post- Graduate Diploma in Pastoral Care, Counselling and Career Guidance from the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (1992), a Bachelor of English (Honours) and a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Winnipeg, Canada (1987), as well as a Certificate-in-Education from the National Institute of Education, Singapore (1982). A qualified teacher of Physical Education, English and English Literature, he spent 15 years teaching students from ages of 13 to 18 within the Singapore national education system before taking up duties as the Manager for Student Development at Nanyang Polytechnic, Singapore, in 1994. In 1999, Mr Loke left the public education sector to start a bouquet education enterprise, called 3L Education Services, to provide English Language-based public communications programmes for tertiary students. As the only full-time Debate Trainer in Singapore, he has coached tertiary debaters from Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic and Singapore Management University in Singapore. In addition, he is the mentor and debate advisor to the Seikei University Debating Society of Japan. He is also a volunteer debate coach of a local secondary school, Boon Lay Secondary School, since 2000. Steven L. Johnson Associate Professor, Director of Debate, University of Alaska Anchorage. Noel Selegzi Noel Selegzi is the Executive Director of the International Debate Education Association (IDEA). A graduate of Amherst College and Columbia University, Noel has taught debate for the past 15 years and helped introduce debate in more than 30 countries around the world. Miss Cheong En Min Miss Cheong En Min is the Marketing Communications & Adjudication Development Executive of the Society for Associated Inter-tertiary Debaters (SAID). She is a graduate of the Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s School of Film and Media Studies and holds a Diploma in Mass Communications. She is currently working as a freelance writer and filmmaker, and aspires to augment her academic qualifications with an Australian university degree in Political Science. She represented the Polytechnic as a debater in the 9th All Asian Debating Championships 2002, chaired debates in the Multimedia University Open Debating Championships 2003, adjudicated in the World University Debating Championships 2004, and 11th All Asian Debating Championships 2004. She also participated in the World Universities Debating Championships 2003, where she adjudicated alongside the Chief Adjudicator. In addition, En Min has been actively involved in numerous local varsity debating competitions in Singapore. She was an external adjudicator at the Temasek Polytechnic Inter-school Debating Championships 2003, and was one of five judges at the Grand Finals. She now trains debaters of the Ngee Ann Polytechnic Debate Club. JUDE TAY Mr Jude Tay is the Administrative Development Executive of the Society of Associated Inter-tertiary Debaters (SAID), Singapore. He graduated with a Diploma in Accountancy and Taxation from Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP), Singapore, and is currently working as a Customer Service Officer at a transnational IT enterprise. He represented his Polytechnic as a debater in the Inter-Polytechnic Debate Championships in 1999, in the Nanyang Technological University Inter-Institute Debating Championship 2001, in the Singapore Management University Hammers Open 2004 and lastly, in the All-Asian Inter-Varsity Debate Championships in 2000. He is also the external adjudicator for his Polytechnic’s Inter-School Debate Championships for the last 3 years since 2001. Jude was the Best Overall Speaker in the Inter-Polytechnic Debate Championships in 1999. He was also awarded the Nanyang Polytechnic Student Development Award in 2001 for his outstanding contributions to debating at the Polytechnic.
Miss Mariana Silahuddin Ms Mariana Silahuddin is an Associate Member of the Society for Associated Inter-Tertiary Debaters (SAID), Singapore. Miss Mariana Silahuddin is a Third Year student from Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore. She will be graduating with a Diploma in Early Childhood Education in March 2005. She represented her secondary school in the Singapore Inter Secondary School Debating Championships 2000/2001 and was awarded a Top-20 Best Speaker Award. She then went on to represent Ngee Ann Polytechnic in two consecutive Inter-Polytechnic Debating Championships in 2002 and 2003, and in the Multimedia University Open Debating Championships, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2002, as well as in various other local varsity debating tournaments in Singapore. In May 2004, Mariana represented the Society for Associated Inter-Tertiary Debaters (SAID) at the 11th All-Asian Inter Varsity Debating Championships at the Assumption University, Bangkok, Thailand. Mr Raffi Ismail Mr Raffi Ismail is the Vice-President of the Society for Associated Inter-Tertiary Debaters (SAID). He is currently serving out the final phase of his compulsory military National Service stint as a military training school co-coordinator in Singapore. Mr Raffi Ismail graduated from Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore, in 2003 with a Diploma in Information Technology. He had been an active debater in his Polytechnic, holding various executive posts – Programme Director (2001 – 2002) and Advisor (2003), which involved co-ordinating and organising various tournaments and public events in the Polytechnic. He has represented his Polytechnic as a debater at 3 All-Asian Inter-Varsity Debating Championships held in Manila (2001), and Bangkok (2002, 2004) and the Nanyang Technological University’s Austral-Asian Inter-Varsity Debating Championships in 2001.
